Who it fits
- California and Southeast homeowners who want a big-bank HELOC with published pricing
- Borrowers who'll draw early and benefit from a 9-month intro rate
- People planning several fixed-rate draws
What to check
- The intro rate ends after 9 months; compare the standard margin
- Closing within 36 months means repaying closing costs Truist paid
- One Truist HELOC per borrower; investment properties aren't eligible
Our take
Truist publishes more pricing than most banks: a standard range of prime plus 0.25 to 6.85 points, a 9-month intro rate and a fixed-rate range. It lends in California, which many eastern banks don't. The intro rate is attractive for a large early draw, but the long-term cost depends on your standard margin, which varies widely. Keep the line at least three years or expect to repay closing costs.
Questions to ask Truist
- What will my margin be after the intro period?
- Which closing costs would I pay in my state if Truist doesn't cover them?
- What is the lifetime cap in my state?
- How long is the intro rate guaranteed for my application date?
If it doesn't fit
- A lender with no early-closure clawback if you may sell within three years
- A credit union if your standard margin quote is high
How to compare it
Put any offer side by side on margin over prime, total fees, draw terms and fixed-rate options. Prime is 7.00% as of October 28, 2026. A broker with access to more than 180 lenders can price several of these in one application; check your rate and compare them with a direct quote from Truist.
