  • Borrowers who'll draw a large amount at opening
  • Lines up to $1 million with no closing costs

  • Current rates aren't published on the page; get a written quote
  • The intro rate ends after 6 months; compare the rate after it
  • The initial-draw discount requires keeping the balance for 3 billing cycles

Our take

Bank of America's HELOC is built around discounts. The advertised structure rewards customers who already bank there, enroll in autopay, draw a large amount at opening and hold it for three billing cycles, and belong to its Rewards program. Stacked together, those discounts can make the line very competitive. For someone without a Bank of America relationship who plans to draw small amounts over time, most of the discounts don't apply, and the offer should be judged on its standard margin after the six-month intro period. The lack of closing costs on lines up to $1 million and no annual fee are genuine strengths, especially for large lines in high-value markets.

Questions to ask Bank of America

  • What is my margin over prime after the intro period, with and without each discount?
  • Which discounts would I actually qualify for, given how much I'll draw at opening?
  • What is the lifetime rate cap?
  • Is there a fee if I close the line within the first few years?

If it doesn't fit

  • Credit unions, if you aren't a Bank of America customer and won't draw much at opening
  • A lender with a published rate range, so you can compare before applying

How to compare it

Put any offer side by side on margin over prime, total fees, draw terms and fixed-rate options. Prime is 7.00% as of October 28, 2026. A broker with access to more than 180 lenders can price several of these in one application; check your rate and compare them with a direct quote from Bank of America.
