- U.S. Bank checking customers
What to check

- Early-closure fee if you close within 30 months
Our take
U.S. Bank stands out for transparency: it publishes an APR range, a rate cap and a floor, and it lets borrowers lock up to three portions of the balance at fixed rates for up to 20 years. That makes it a strong fit for borrowers who want a line's flexibility with a fixed payment on large draws. The best rates require excellent credit, low loan-to-value, a line of at least $50,000 and autopay from a U.S. Bank account, so borrowers outside that profile should expect pricing toward the middle or top of the range. The early-closure fee within 30 months matters if you might sell or refinance soon.
Questions to ask U.S. Bank
- Where in the published APR range would my credit, loan-to-value and line size fall?
- What does each fixed-rate lock cost, and can I unlock?
- Is the annual fee waived with my accounts?
- Is the line available for properties in my county?
If it doesn't fit
- A home equity specialist if you need higher loan-to-value
- A no-fee credit union line if you might close within 30 months
How to compare it
Put any offer side by side on margin over prime, total fees, draw terms and fixed-rate options. Prime is 7.00% as of October 28, 2026. A broker with access to more than 180 lenders can price several of these in one application; check your rate and compare them with a direct quote from U.S. Bank.
