TD Bank vs. Citizens HELOC
TD Bank and Citizens compared on rates, fees, borrowing limits and fixed-rate options, from each lender's published terms.
Disclosure: Shawn Way is a loan officer at West Capital Lending, Inc., which competes with these lenders. HELOCHQ isn't paid by any lender for reviews, and every fact below comes from the lender's own published terms.
Both serve the East Coast. Citizens has no opening fees and lines up to $2 million. TD charges a flat $99 to open and lends on investment properties, which Citizens doesn't.

The difference that matters
TD's rates page leaves out loan-to-value limits and draw terms, so get them in writing. Citizens' 21% lifetime cap is higher than TD's 18%.
Choose TD Bank if
- You want to borrow against a rental or investment property
- You bank with TD and can use its checking discount
- Your line is $25,000 to $500,000
Choose Citizens if
- You want no origination fee
- You need a line above $500,000
- You can meet Citizens' best-rate conditions
If neither fits
Different lenders draw the line in different places on credit score, loan-to-value, property type and state. A broker can price several lenders with one application. Get your HELOC rate, or if you already have an offer from either lender, see how it compares with HELOCs closed this year.
